For us at aimClear, 2011 has already been a whirlwind of a year. Our Conference Road Trip has so far brought us westward to sunny San Francisco for OMMA Global, south to San Jose for SMX West, and all the way back east for Search Engine Strategies in good old New York. April is well under way, and thus continues our road trip—next stops include a special event at SEMpdx in Portland, and SMX & eMetrics in shiny Sydney, Australia. Read on for a closer look at who will be where, and a sneak peek at what they’ll be dishing up.
eMetrics & SMX Sydney
Ahh, Australia- home to baby-eating dingoes and brain-chow craving marketers. While the dingoes head to the Outback to feast, marketers this year will flock to the swank Sydney Hilton for combined conferences eMetrics Sydney and SMX Sydney. Jim Sterne, founder of eMetrics, and to Barry Smyth of No Drama Media (Aussie arm of Third Door Media), have joined forces to organize what sounds like a very promising hybrid event.
Our own Marty Weintraub will make the super-long but super-worth-it voyage across the world, marking his second consecutive appearance at the annually hosted SMX Sydney. During the week, Marty’s set to take the stage four times, speaking alongside fellow thought-leaders from around the globe.

Wednesday, April 13 – eMetrics Sydney- Day 1 – 10:45 am (Aussie time!)
Marty will deliver a solo presentation on Social KPIs & the New Age of Data-Driven Community Management. Session topics will range from mapping search keywords to social channels, identifying authority users, measuring the conversion ratio, teaching employees holistic and non-gratuitous social behavior, vanity baiting, and everything in between. Tasty.
Thursday, April 14 – SMX Sydney – Day 1 – 10:45 am
To kick off SMX Sydney, Marty will speak on Search Marketing In The Facebook Zone. Attendees are in for a nose-deep look at Facebook as the search engine behemoth it truly is. From content ranking tactics to ad management techniques and the low-down on how FB content indexes in Bing & Google, it’s a deep dive into the search side of a leading social channel.
The afternoon of SMX Sydney Day 1 will wrap up with a panel discussion tackling the Future of Search, starting at 4:50 pm. Join Marty and fellow seasoned industry dudes Danny Sullivan, Rand Fishkin, Greg Boser, Stefan Weitz, and Chris Sherman for a look at where search & social media marketing are heading as technologies continue to evolve.
Friday, April 15 – SMX Sydney – 10:45 am
Day 2 of SMX Sydney, you’ll find Marty sharing tasty takeaways in his Deadeye YouTube SEO and Winning Universal SERPs presentation. Those who sit in on the session can expect tactics for mining the YouTube Ajax suggestion box for YouTube search Keyword inventory, proper video tagging techniques, and tips for understanding YouTube ranking reports.
Search Marketers & Sea Legs
After days jam-packed with presentations, panel chats, and Q&As galore, it’s all aboard the Annual Harbour Cruise, for a two hour sail around Sydney Harbor. Conf attendees, speakers, delegates and clever stowaways will feast on prawns, sausages, beer, wine, and fabulous conversation. This networking event is a ticketed affair (and tickets are only sold prior to anchor up), so if you plan to attend, be sure buy your tickets ahead of time.
Tuesday, April 12 – SEMpxd Aptil Event – 4:30 pm PST
Yes, I know we went back in time. That’s what happens when part of your team is in Australia and the other part’s on the west coast of the U.S. While Marty’s cruising around Sydney, our own Merry Morud is kicking it with Todd Mintz, representing the aimClear team at SEMpdx (Search Engine Marketing Professionals of Portland).
Portland is a gem of a city that holds a special place in our frequent flyer mile card’s hearts. A truly rad regional conference that sets the bar, SEMpdx & aimClear go way back.
On Tuesday (today!) afternoon, Merry will deliver an hour-long solo presentation on her undisputed area of rock star expertise, Facebook. Hosted at Portland offices of CMD , the session will span the FB Ads universe, complete with an up-close & personal demo of killer Facebook Advertising tool, Acquisio. If you’re in the area, this is one event not to be missed.
