The Q1 conference season is about to launch into warp drive. SMX West San Jose, SEMpdx SearchFest Portland, OR and Search Engine Strategies New York are the biggies on my list, though there are numerous smaller (and totally worthy) offerings including Social Insider Summit, Key Biscayne, OMMA San Francisco and PubCon South.
Whatever conference is at hand, one great pleasure of being aimClear’s CEO is getting to recommend specific sessions to our staff, clients and other friends. Invariably, I suggest speakers that are among my personal favorites. As the Q1 conference schedule looms, this year I thought it would be fun to publish my usual speaker recommendations. Though far from a complete, these folks are totally among the best and brightest our industry has to offer. This post is part one of two. We’ll publish the second half tomorrow. Those at #SESCHI 2010 witnessed the epic battle of PPC vs. SEO. Queue the Rocky-theme music! In the red corner we’ve got SEO, and in the blue corner is PPC. Throughout #SESCHI 2010, citations of search & social marketing case studies have run rampant. “Did you hear about the Old Spice campaign? How about Skittles!?” Um, yeah. Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you’ve heard of them, maybe even posted on their branded Facebook page or tweeted at their spokesperson… desperately begging for him to engage you in a hilarious (& steamy-dreamy…) viral YouTube video…
The B2Bers among the Search Engine Strategies crowd were hungry for some hardcore business-facing case studies to bring home and proudly present to their bosses, like a beaming schoolgirl (or boy!) handing momo & dad a straight-A report card. The B2B Marketing panel did not disappoint, with presenters Mischa Stephens, senior optimization specialist at Google, and Chris Long, SVP of e-commerce and marketing at L-com, Inc. delivering the goods.

The beginning of the end of Day 1 at #SESCHI 2010 found some marketers fidgeting in their final session rooms, anxious to get to the cocktail reception (free-drink tickets clutched tightly in clammy hands…). But it’s safe to say that those attending the “Delivering Great Content” panel were more anxious for the strategies sure to be shared by a power-house team of presenters more than anything else. Greg Jarboe, president and co-founder of SEO-PR, Michael DeHaven, SEO Product Manager, Bazaarvoice & Heather Lloyd-Martin, CEO, SuccessWorks dolled out great insights on three facets of content: video content, user-generated content and SEO copywriting strategies.
