@Cassie - Thanks for taking time to comment :) "...etiquette through experimentation" - I really like that, and think you're spot on with that concept. In a way, one's approach to etiquette is part of one's brand voice... though I agree- every voice should invest in grammatically sound tweets.

@Luci - So glad you find the tips useful. No shame in being a sporadic tweeter - the important thing is to use the platform in a way that provides value to you and those who follow you :)

Thanks for this post - I'm never sure on the actual etiquette, or what I used to think of as the 'unwritten rules' , but here they are! written! fantastic :) And I don't think I've broken any major ones, although I am somewhat of a sporadic Twitter user..

This is a great compilation of Twitter etiquette related posts. Everyone definitely has different opinions with a lot of similarities. I've seen so many brands doing so many different things in social media, and it all seems to encourage quite a bit of engagement.

I think that in the end, each brand should develop its own proper etiquette through experimentation, just like each brand has its own characteristics to it. Although, I've gotta say that proper grammar is always a must.

Things change so quickly in "Twitterland" that it is hard to keep up. These are some great steps and rules to follow. I especially like #1 about not pointing out petty mistakes. Not sure what possesses people to do that but unfortunately the biggest offenders probably won't even read your post. Great information. Thanks for sharing.

@Justin - Thank you for taking the time to leave your colorful thoughts on the post :) I'm so pleased you find the collection of sources useful for a variety of businesses - that's definitely how I felt about them, too, and why I feel they deserve to be culled for easy sharability. Thanks also for your contribution to the conversation I started yesterday. You rock like a hurricane!

Powerfully choice post, Lauren. You've created an invaluable hub of reference material for any business that's looking to tap the awesome potential that Twitter can offer them. Be they a corporate juggernaut of Lovecraftian proportions, looking to plunge their monolithic claw into the twitterverse and pull new, mewling consumers from it by the thousands, or a brand-new startup simply trying to keep their business from being capsized by the treacherous cosmic winds of that same 'verse, EVERYONE should have this post nestled firmly in their bookmark list.
